According to Bangkok Post, a five-year-old boy named Sila Jio Boonklomjit is the first patient who has Covid-19 and successfully undergoes a stem cell transplant in order to save his sister Jean who are born with a blood disorder called thalassemia at Ramathibody Hospital in Thailand on April.<\/p>\n

According to the Associate Professor Usanrat Anurathapan, who did the transplant report that it is not easy to find another stem cell donor for Jean because it is very rare to find compatible stem cells from a donor who is not genetically related while the chance is one in 20,000 to 50,000. Therefore, they have to get the stem cells from Jio and while they are on the process of collecting the process they discovered that he has Covid-19.

\nThe doctor said it might be a great problem as due to Jio has infected with the virus, it might have spread into the stem cell and can get infected to Jean or those medical staff life at risk. But Jean’s life would be in danger too if she did not receive an urgent stem cell transplant. The sibling’s father, Suchai Boonklomjit mentioned that he almost collapsed when he was struck with the disaster, and chances are they might lose both children and get infected by the Covid-19 too.

\nAccording to Bangkok Post, the medical team later discovered that the stem cell did no have infected by Covid-19 and the transplant was successful. And the last report shows that the whole family has no Covid-19 after a subsidized check-up was offered by Ramthibody Foundation.<\/p>\n
