The air travel<\/a> bubble (ATB) which allowing the earlier quarantine-free travel<\/a> plan between Singapore and Hong Kong will be delayed again after the latest spike of Covid-19 cases in Singapore. The Ministry of Transport (MOT) announced on May 17 that Transport Minister S.Iswaran had a meeting with Hong Kong Secretary for Commerce and Economic Development Edward Yao on the current issue.<\/p>\n

Currently, Singapore is unable to meet the criteria to start the Singapore-Hong Kong ATB and both sides now agreed to defer the launch of ATB to protect the health of travelers and public from both countries. The Ministry from both countries will also monitor the public health situation and review the new launch date of the ATB flights<\/a> towards the end of phase two (heightened alert) and the current air travel<\/a> bubble would be suspended when the seven days moving average of unlinked community cases in either Singapore or Hong Kong increase more than five.<\/p>\n

The bubble which was planned to take off on May 26 was first deferred last year by both parties owing to the worsening of the Covid-19 situation in Hong Kong. While former Transport Minister Ong Ye Kung who is now the Health Minister has also said that most likely Singapore will not be able to meet the criteria to kick off the bubble at the moment and now what can be done is closely monitor the numbers for the next few days to review the start date again.<\/p>\n
