Over the past few hours, there are a large of Android user has encountered Gmail and other app keep on shutting down as on 11pm on Monday, Google has issued a permanent fix for the app crashing issue which involves both Android System Webview and Chrome to version 89.0.4389.105:<\/p>\n

  1. Navigate to Play Store app<\/li>\n
  2. Search for\u00a0Android System WebView<\/a><\/li>\n
  3. Select the \u201cUpdate\u201d option<\/li>\n
  4. Repeat these steps for\u00a0Google Chrome<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    The bug is impacting the device where it will makes your Webview, Chrome and Gmail to be broken and keep on crashing. However, there is an immediate solution where you can visiting this link directly<\/a>, or going to the \u201cMy apps & games\u201d page, swiping left to the \u201cInstalled\u201d tab, and scrolling down \u2014 it should be one of the first apps. After that, tap \u201cUninstall\u201d and confirm on the prompt that appears.<\/p>\n

    2. Open the \u201cInstalled\u201d tab and select Android System WebView<\/strong><\/li>\n
    3. Tap Uninstall<\/strong><\/li>\n
    4. Confirm \u201cUninstall\u201d<\/strong><\/li>\n
    5. Reboot device<\/strong><\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

      If that does not work for whatever reason, another course of action is going to system Settings > Apps & notifications > See all apps > Android System WebView > tap the three-dot overflow menu in the top-right corner > Uninstall updates > OK. These instructions are for Android 11 on Pixel phones, but it should be a similar process on other OS versions and OEM devices.<\/p>\n
