Chinatown which is one of the famous place for us to visit during the Chinese New Year period or looking for some awesome dine-out here especially during these time when we are unable to travel<\/a> out of Singapore, having a visit back here will certainly put a stop on our heart amiss of travelling. However, little did we all know that Chinatown buildings were being kept in good shape even after 39 years later on.<\/p>\n

Where recently, a Chinatown shophouse photo has gone viral which is basically didn’t look any different other than the other surrounding stuff which has becomes more modern. On Tuesday (9 Mar),\u00a0Redditor u\/Dustry_Chen<\/a> shared a side-by-side picture of a shophouse located at the junction of Smith and Trengganu Street. The building which has been refurbish in recent years which it still remains all the unique old school charm.<\/p>\n

And it turns out that the shophouse was the iconic Lai Chun Yuen Opera Theatre which were built in 1887 and it was the focal point of amusement in Chinatown. BUt later it was badly damaged in the 2nd World War and the building later was renovated and used as a merchandised shop and a warehouse. While today, it has become a modern boutique hotel.<\/p>\n

Other than this, the Smith Streets which were lined with hawkers and other merchants selling goods weren’t much different also where today, it was the place where we can find great foods here.<\/p>\n
