S’pore approve Pfizer-BioNTech Vaccine and Free for all Singaporeans and Long Term Residents<\/p>\n

Singapore’s Health Sciences Authority (HSA) has approved the Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine as announced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong today. The shipment of this vaccine will arrive end of December and with the vaccine, it will be first provided to those who are at greater risk first such as healthcare and frontline personnel as well as the elderly.<\/p>\n

PM Lee also announced that the Singaporeans will also bring other vaccines as well and if all goes well, they should be enough vaccines for everyone in Singapore by the 3rd Quarter in 2021. The Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine (named “BNT162b2”) is an mRNA (messenger RNA) vaccine. Which is created based on the genetic sequence of Sars-Cov-2 which is then genetically coded to instruct our cells to produce the spike protein unique to SARS-CoV-2.<\/p>\n

Once this vaccine is injected into our body, our muscle cells produce the protein, triggering our immune system to attack the virus. However, the mRNA vaccine is notoriously unstable and they are to be kept at a super cool temperature which can be easily broken down by the immune system before they reach their target too.<\/p>\n
